U.S. Embassy-New on-line visa appointments |17 February 2007

The Embassy says in a communiqué that it will begin processing visa applications as of March 1, 2007 only for those applicants who have booked the appointment online.

“Visa applicants will fill out the mandatory online application, a DS-156, and then will continue on to book their appointments. The forms and appointment system are located at http://evisaforms.state.gov,” says the communiqué.

Applicants must bring their completed application form as well as other required documentation to the Consular Section at the appointment time. Consular staff will screen the applicants and then give the applicant another appointment time for the visa interview later that morning, explains the communiqué.

According to the communiqué, the new procedures “will substantially improve service standards. Applicants will know what time to come and will be able to meet consular staff without having to wait in line”.
