STA mini-tennis inter-school championship-Anse Etoile Primary School the winner |30 November 2006
The competition saw the participation of six primary schools, namely Anse Etoile, La Retraite, Grand Anse Mahé, La Misère, Cascade and Beau Vallon.
Daniel Herminie from Anse Etoile Primary School was the boys’ champion whilst Amanda Volcère of La Misère Primary School topped the girls’ category.
After eliminating Marius Labiche in the semifinal, Herminie qualified for the final where he met schoolmate Basil Benoit who had eliminated Xexes Larue of La Misère Primary School in the other semifinal. In the final, Herminie was more focused and made fewer mistakes to win 2-0 (12-10, 12-10).
In the girls’ competition, Amanda Volcère booked her ticket to the final by eliminating Isabelle Antoine of Anse Etoile Primary School in the first semifinal whilst Keithra Sanders of Anse Etoile School dispatched Sharyl Moustache of Cascade Primary School in the other last-four match.
In the tightly contested final, both players demonstrated a lot of courage and the willingness to win. In the end, Volcère won the match in straight sets 2-0 (12-10, 12-10) to be crowned champion.
With three players in the finals, Anse Etoile finished as the best school followed by La Misère whilst Grand Anse Mahé and Cascade shared third position.
The prizes were given out to the winners by Terrence Barbé, the assistant director for youth sports development within the National Sports Council, and STA chairperson Philip Brioche.
