Boxing: Inter-Cities Tournament in Kenya-Final berths for Julie, Havelock, Ladouce and Camille |19 October 2006

The four local punchers will go into action Friday October 20 inside Nairobi’s Charter Hall after winning byes straight into the finals during the draw conducted on Tuesday.

Light welterweight (64-kg) Julie will fight either John Muiruri (Kenya) or Giovanni Frontin (Mauritius) as the two were to meet in the semifinal.

Ladouce, a middleweight (75-kg) puncher has been granted a bye straight into the final and his opponent is Kenyan David Opiyo.

In the heavyweight (91-kg) class, Havelock awaits the winner of the bout between experienced Kenyan boxer James ‘Bingwa’ Wasao and Tanzanian Rajab Madinda.

At super heavyweight (+91-kg), Camille will fight it out with Kenyan Idris Adhir.
The first Seychellois pugilist in action yesterday was supposed to be Dave César and he was to square up with Martin Oduor of Kenya in one of the two flyweight (51-kg) division semifinals.

In the featherweight (57-kg) class, MacFarlène Estrale was to box against Kenyan John Kariuki in the semifinal and the winner will meet Mauritian Richarno Colin in the final.

Lightweight (60-kg) pugilist Jean-Paul Mellie was to fight James Menya in the last-four stage for a place in the final.

Leroy Léon (54-kg) was to meet Mauritian Bruno Julie and by the time of going to press, Alvin Gabriel’s opponent in the 69-kg was not known.

Only boxing teams from Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), Mauritius, Seychelles and Nairobi (Kenya) are participating in the competition which forms part of the Kenyatta Day celebrations.

Teams from Kampala and Jinja (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda), Bujumbura (Burundi), Lusaka and Kitwe (Zambia), Arusha and Mwanza (Tanzania) failed to turn up for the event which was held in Dar-es-Salaam in 2004 and in Kigali in 2005.
