Department specifies reasons for HIV test |22 February 2006

It is doing so in a fresh campaign that is being hosted under the theme “Sida! Fer en promes: Fer ou tes!” (Aids! Make your promise, Be tested!).

A spokesperson for the department said that Health is incorporating the sensitisation in this year’s ABC campaign, which annually urges people to abstain from sex or be faithful to their partners, otherwise use condoms.

“We want to promote testing among those who feel they have put themselves at risk or those who are planning to move into a sexual relationship,” the spokesperson said.

He said the other two categories are of those who are considering having a baby and individuals who have never had an HIV test and would like to know their status.

The campaign is being mounted from health centres and hospitals and through the media.
