H.E. Kokonas then called on Vice-President Joseph Belmont, after which he talked about the late Archbishop Makarios, a Greek Cypriot who was exiled here in 1956 and 1957.
Ambassador Kokonas recalled that it will soon be the 50th anniversary of the March 9, 1956 exile from Cyprus of the archbishop, who was to return and become Cuprus’ first president.
The new envoy described relations between his country and Seychelles as very cordial.
He referred to a time when Greece used to offer scholarships to Seychellois in different fields, and said that after holding a series of scheduled meetings with high Seychelles Government officials, possible specific areas of further cooperation between the two countries will be mapped out.
Based in Nairobi, H.E. Kokonas, who has replaces H.E. Ioannis Korinthios, is the 7th Ambassador to be accredited to Seychelles.
Seychelles and Greece established diplomatic relations on July 16, 1980.
