Foreign investor opens supermarket at Le Rocher |22 December 2005

The Le Rocher Supermarket was officially opened this week by the chief executive of the Seychelles Investment Bureau (SIB), Joseph Nourrice, in a ceremony attended by representatives from the company and other government officials.

The supermarket is located in the one storey building previously owned by British Motors.

Among the variety of products being imported from Dubai and Singapore, consumers can find a series of rare delicacies, especially in the range of fruits. On sale are fresh strawberries, plums, apricots, different varieties of grapes, litchis and vegetables like leek, broccoli, red capsicum, among others.

Consumers can also find a different variety of powdered milk products, chocolates, ketchup, Lipton tea, Dove, Nivea and Sunsilk body products as well as an interesting range of biscuits and toothpaste.

Daniel Farra, the local coordinator of the company, said being one of the leading hotel developers in the Maldives, Universal Enterprises has over the years established good business contacts with a number of overseas suppliers and was in a position to maintain consistent supplies of products.

He said the goods being imported are of top quality and would be distributed to local wholesalers, retailers and hotels.

Only a part of the building is for the moment being dedicated to the supermarket, but the company has plans to extend the business to the whole complex to cater for other household items, such as electronics and furniture.

The company has invested $200,000 in the setting up of the new supermarket.

Le Rocher Supermarket is open Monday to Saturday from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. and on Sunday until midday.
