Cycling: Louis wins Shark’s 77km challenge |16 October 2013
Despite the weather not being too kind to cyclists, Francis Louis won last weekend’s Shark’s 77km challenge race.
It was a tough race which featured a number of hill climbs.
As Shark’s Ice Cream was the main sponsor of the race, the starting line was at its factory at Providence. The cyclists had to make their way to the south of Mahé via Cascade all the way to Baie Lazare. From there they pedalled to Anse Royale via Les Canelles. They then headed back west this time climbing up Montagne Posée hills to reach Anse Boileau.
From Anse Boileau they went to Barbarons and made their way up La Misère to get to Plaisance from where they continued up to Bel Eau, Sans Soucis and down to the finish line at Port Launay.
Francis Louis, who rides for Eco Riders, finished the race in first place with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes 10 seconds (2h58:10) after dominating almost the whole race.
Louis also collected the most points to finish as the best climber.
Journey cycling team’s Dean Hoareau finished the race in 3h01:07 to secure second place ahead of Jean-Paul Loze of Journey Espoir who clocked a time of 3h01.42.
Dean Hoareau and Ahmad Arissol finished second and third best climbers.
Journey ended Eco Riders’ incredible team performance by claiming the best team prize with a combined time of 9h11:21. Eco Riders had to settle for second place with 10h33:51 while Journey Espoir were third with a time of 10h43:08.
