Sly’s La Ou Bred album selling like hot cakes |14 September 2013

Sly’s popular track Mersi Manmi has been available to fans and the public since the launch of her latest album La Ou Bred which hit the market on August 13 and to date the album, which also features the ever popular comic number Jonas by her long time friend and business partner Vurna, has been selling like hot cakes.

Talking to Nation this week Sly said it has been some time now since fans had been asking for the song which she has been called upon to sing at many birthday celebrations.

“I have stopped counting the number of times I have been asked to come and perform the song at mothers’ birthday parties. It is unbelievable, people just love the song for their mums,” she said, adding that she herself sung the song for the first time for her mother’s 50th birthday two years ago.

Since her fourth album in 2004 Sly had taken time off to relax and it was during that period that she had her two children. She then told herself that she was not going to do any more music let alone another album.

“But with time I realised that music is in me and I just cannot stop, so here I am back again with a fifth album and a very comic one,” she said.

The album entitled La Ou Bred comprises eight tracks and apart from Vurna also features Xtra-Big, a young artist whose talents and professionalism Sly said she admires a lot.
“He is really understanding and he did a great job,” said Sly.

But why the title? Sly said for her this simply means here is all you have been waiting for.
“I have put together everything I have been working on especially for all my fans and everyone who loves my music. This is all from me to you all,” she said, adding that the album caters for a variety of tastes and moods through different music genres.

She said since the album hit the market on August 13 the sale has surpassed her expectations.
But what are her plans now.

“I’ve had some offers to feature in some upcoming shows but I’ve not made up my mind yet,” she said.
But the idea is not a bad one I will sleep on it,” she said.

“But I am Sly and all this thing about music does not change my character at all,” she said laughing.
She said the album is fun and she really enjoys it especially track number five Zozefin, the content of which she wants to leave for fans to discover and of course Vurna’s popular Jonas which has also been a real hit among fans.

“We were really not expecting this kind of reaction from the public. When Vurna and I discussed the idea to include Jonas I said why not but we were both skeptical about how the public will take it but it did not take long for us to find out,” she said.

For Vurna the success of the song is more than she had bargained for.
“Jonas is a composition which I had not sat down to think about and worked on. It was just some sort of joke just like that and then I just decided to record the tune on my phone. I am in the habit of recording myself making jokes or singing and I never thought one day this joke of mine would be a hit song,” Vurna said.

She pointed out that her father was the first person to listen to the song.

“He assured me that it was funny and people would love it but I never once thought that it would be to that extent,” Vurna said.

Vurna noted that even though she is not so much in this form of art as much as before, when she decides to give it a go she does so.

“Humour is part of me and I cannot help it, and even though my work now takes the largest part of my time, whenever I can I will try to keep my fans and the public happy with some quality work in which they will not be disappointed,” added Vurna.

She expressed her heartfelt thanks to Sly for the opportunity to feature on her album and everybody else who have supported her all the way.
