Philip Toussaint wins Tune of the Year 2023 with ‘Lagratel’

 

‘Lagratel’ by Philip Toussaint won Tune of the Year 2023 at SBC’s Paradise FM Music Award 2023, which was held last night that the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino.

Philip came out on top among nine fellow artists after spending 16 weeks at number one.

The annual award, which is now in its fifth year, recognises artists who have featured on the Paradise FM chart throughout the year.

Once again a large crowd gathered at the tourism establishment to cheer on their best singers vying for the many titles and prizes, during the over three-hour award ceremony animated by Paradise FM presenters with the support of local artists.

Philip took the stage twice as he also won the male category for Most Requested Artist on Paradise FM radio. This recognises the singer who has submitted an album or single to SBC between October 2022 and September 2023. Sandra won this prize for the female category.

Public Appreciation award went to the song ‘Woman’ by Auspitious and Elijah.

Auspitious was also the winner for the most chart entry in the male category with six songs namely ‘Cry’, ‘I zoli’, ‘Woman’, ‘Reggae Music Man’, ‘Limenm’ and ‘Temwannyaz en solda’.

For the ladies, most chart entry for the female category went to Keartsea with three songs.

Best Newcomer on the Paradise FM chart went to young female artist Riah, who was very emotional when thanking her team and fans.

SS Gang won for Best Duo/ Group category for the third consecutive year with their song ‘Je T’Aime’ featuring Daniel,  which spent nine weeks on the chart.

Best Collaboration went to Daniel and Ruben for their song ‘Doub Konsyans’.

Hot Tune Award category goes to a song released late in the year but which was still well appreciated by fans. This went to Ryan Louise with ‘Manman’.

Most Valuable producer was Xtra big; three of the producer’s songs made it to number one on the Paradise FM Chart, namely ‘Papa Disik’ by Richie B and ‘Available’ by Marathon Man  featuring Xtra Big, which both spent two weeks on the chart and ‘Move On’ by D-vyne which was on the chart for a week.

Last night’s event also saw veteran Joseph Louise be inducted in the Hall of Fame, alongside David Philoe and John Wirtz. Mr Louise was not present at the ceremony and his prize was collected by his son, fellow artist Ryan Louise.
