New SDF recruit dies |29 March 2023

• President sends message of condolence

 

The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) has announced the passing of one of its recruits on Monday, March 27, 2023.

In a press release issued yesterday, the SDF stated that the recruit fell sick during training and was promptly attended to by their on-site medical team.

“Following medical assessment, the recruit was transferred to Seychelles Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, the recruit's condition worsened and he was pronounced dead in the afternoon of March 27, 2023,” reads the statement.

The SDF said it was currently awaiting official reports from the Ministry of Health to determine the cause of the recruit's passing.

It also expressed its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

The SDF said it was reaching out to close relatives of the recruit to provide them with the necessary support in line with their existing policies.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and stand with the family and loved ones of the recruit during this difficult time,” the press release reads.

Meanwhile President Wavel Ramkalawan, in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, has sent a message of condolence following the passing of the young recruit. 
“On behalf of the country and on my personal behalf, I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young recruit. By voluntarily joining to become a member of the Seychelles Defence Forces team already depicts how honourable this young man was and his willingness to join to serve his country. We are deeply saddened by this sudden loss and wish his family and friends courage and strength during this difficult time,” the message reads.
