Minister Alexander engages finance and offshore sectors to strengthen strategic partnerships |07 April 2026

In pursuit of her plan to engage with key economic pillars, the Minister for Employment and Human Resource Planning, on Friday March 27, 2026, visited three businesses involved in finance, accounting and offshore activities.
The visit, which included presentations by the leaders of those businesses on their current and future growth plans, focused on understanding the sector better and consolidating much stronger partnerships to the common benefit of both parties.
As an important pillar of the economy, the finance and offshore sector are instrumental with their contribution to national revenue and employment. The minister felt encouraged to learn that Abacus (Seychelles) Limited and ACM & Associates have between 70 percent and 80 percent respectively of their workers as Seychellois whereas Appleby Global Services tops them all with 100 percent Seychellois, with a good number of them with long years of service.
Prevalent sectoral challenges were discussed that included specialist skills shortage and limited industry-specific training that have compelled them to introduce their own tailor-made ones available online that new and current staff can undertake to build their capacity. A more sectoral challenge that they all raised was of an operational nature where they informed of the continuous change in regulatory requirements by relevant government authorities that most of the time come with very little notice, causing disruptions and client mistrust.
The visit concluded with the parties concurring that for the sector to evolve, it requires government support to create an environment where the landscape is more equitable and increased collaboration with education/training institutions so that they can continue to recruit local talents.
“Today’s exchange reasserts my ministry’s commitment to upholding cross-sectoral collaboration for sustainable growth at all levels. Let us continue to work collaboratively to ensure the sector remains resilient,” said the minister.
Minister Alexander was joined by senior officials from her ministry. The visit forms part of her strategy to engage with employing organisations that are key participants in the advancement of our economy.
