US defeats LDS, wins presidency

The Seychellois people have elected Dr Patrick Herminie of United Seychelles (US) as the island nation’s President for the next five years.

Dr Herminie, who will serve as Seychelles’ sixth President, secured 34,389 votes, or 52.7 percent of all valid votes cast during the presidential election runoff, held on October 9, 10 and 11 across the islands. His opponent, Wavel Ramkalawan of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) garnered a total of 30,823 votes, or 47.3 percent of all valid votes cast.
