The two leaders during their tête-à-tête
- Incumbent and president-elect meet at State House
Yesterday marked the beginning of a peaceful transfer of power as outgoing Head of State and Linyon Demokratik Seselwa presidential candidate, Wavel Ramkalawan, met with president-elect, Dr Patrick Herminie of United Seychelles.
The two leaders held a two-hour tête-à-tête at State House in the morning, where Vice-President Ahmed Afif also met with his incoming counterpart, Sebastien Pillay. Among the matters discussed were the inauguration of the new president, the official opening of the National Assembly, the office of the former president, national security, economic stability, and the importance of ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition of power
Both leaders agreed to seek clarity on the legal provisions governing who should preside over the opening of the National Assembly. Mr Ramkalawan noted that if the law stipulates the sitting be held before October 26, he would preside, while if it takes place after that date, the responsibility would fall on Mr Herminie. The president-elect expressed his enthusiasm to do so.
