Seychelles officially opens Consulate in Croatia

Seychelles has opened a Consulate in Zagreb, Croatia.

This was during a short ceremony on Tuesday July 6 when the secretary of state for Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Frano Matusic, joined Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, to cut the ribbon to officially open Seychelles’ Consulate in Zagreb, the capital-city of Croatia.

The inauguration comprised the unveiling of a plaque at the consulate itself followed by a reception at the Double Tree Hotel.

In her speech at the inauguration ceremony, the honorary consul of Seychelles in Croatia, Sonja Udovicic, said this inauguration represented a special moment for her and her family who over the last decade has developed very close ties with Seychelles.

She added that this inauguration, which marks the formal representation of Seychelles in Croatia, will facilitate people-to-people contacts and foster relationship between the two countries.

After she expressed her gratitude for the privilege that the Seychelles bestowed upon her to serve in such capacity, she pledged her full support to promoting better relationship between Croatia and Seychelles.

For his part, Secretary of State Matusic wished Honorary Consul Udovicic success and expressed the hope that her work will contribute to deepening ties between Seychelles and Croatia in fields ranging from tourism to the blue economy.

He also remarked that Croatia will champion the cause of Seychelles within the European Union.

Minister Radegonde said in his speech to mark the occasion that the opening of the consulate in Zagreb forms part of the strategy of the government of Seychelles to “enhance the visibility of Seychelles in the world and to promote even closer and stronger cooperation between friendly countries”.

He went on to explain that this new consulate “will be responsible for providing consular services to all Seychelles nationals over the whole territory of the Republic of Croatia” as well as “tasked with promoting Seychelles’ interests

in various fields of common interest” like “tourism, investment, trade, education, sport” and others.

He described the inauguration of the consulate as of “special significance to the

continued development of the Seychelles-Croatia relationship”.

The reception at Hilton Hotel was attended by members of the consular corps and

business community in Zagreb as well as government officials including Neveu Peliczvic, security advisor of the Foreign Minister of Croatia.
