Constitution Day 2021 ‘Even in small ways, we can honour our Constitution’ |19 June 2021

The Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) joins together with all the people of Seychelles to commemorate our Constitution Day.

“Our Constitution enshrines the beliefs on which our nation rests. They are the principles by which we consent to be governed and to participate in its government. They set forth the assumptions and expectations we hold for the way in which our society will be held together – our aspirations for freedom, equality, justice and respect for the rights of all persons.

“These principles were beautifully expressed by representatives of our society at the flag-raising ceremony held today (June 18), with the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution and in a song performed by three of our young artistes.

“As Seychellois, we rejoice that we have in large part secured these principles but it is also the occasion to renew our commitment to achieve them to the fullest extent. What each one of us can do is to take better note of them and be more aware of our own role in bringing them to full realisation. They hold noble goals which are worthy of all our efforts and which will make us a strong nation.

“We hope that all our citizens find a way of commemorating this occasion in a meaningful way with a thought, a statement or an action that expresses our commitment to these principles. Even in small ways, we can honour our Constitution, make it a living document and one which we live by.”
