Jahkim and the Survivors join Maison Marengo for Reggae Chill Out Acoustic |09 June 2021

It’s been well over a year since fans last saw reggae dancehall artist Jahkim doing what he does best. After weeks and months of being deprived from live entertainment, concerts and shows, Jahkim and Maison Marengo are joining forces to bring the first ever Reggae Chill Out Acoustic this Saturday, June 12.

The soiree, featuring a mellower Jahkim backed by an impressive array of talents which constitute the Survivors Band, is set to kick off at 6pm, and promises to be a night filled with good vibes only, lasting up to 10pm. Fans can expect to see the old-school Jahkim from the ‘Red, Gold and Green Souljah’ days up to Pli For Ki Avan, but most importantly, prepare to be wowed by a new and more melodious element to the music militant.

“Reggae Chill Out Acoustic, this is what was missing for a good while, we barely hear reggae in restaurants. As the name suggests, the idea is to bring the music closer to the people, especially during these difficult times where we find ourselves cornered,” Jahkim said.

“We thank everyone behind the project, as Reggae Chill Out Acoustic is a movement, it is not just a concert. We put together a small band, the Survivors, and we have been together almost one year, since the Covid-19 pandemic hit. We had started to vision how to get our music out there, as we do not have any major concerts for a while to come yet, so we thought why not target restaurants, to take our music to another direction, to present it in another manner,” Jahkim told Seychelles NATION.

Tickets for the show only are priced at R300, while tickets for the show, dinner and wine pairing are priced at R1000. A special discount of 15 percent also applies to cocktails for the evening, and the A La Carte Menu will also be on offer.

As seating capacity is limited, fans are advised to book and issue payment early, by calling 2510800.

Despite the pandemic resulting in the decline in the entertainment industry, Jahkim’s passion for his craft has not waned. In addition to the formation of the band and making the transition to a more simple and sound craft focused sound, he has kept himself busy recording music at his home studio, working on featuring, and exploring avenues for regional and international exposure.

“We have always kept ourselves both physically and mentally fit. I have a few features, one with Cocky, one with Gatto and another with Gunz. I also have a single coming out soon on the radio, and I am looking forward to it. We also want to start venturing online onto Youtube, expose ourselves to people overseas, and our fans in the region. I have a fan base in Mauritius, Rodrigues, and even the Seychellois overseas. We need to do it ourselves and we have always done everything ourselves, but now more than ever, if the pandemic has shown us anything, is that we need to develop and push for the progression so music doesn’t remain stagnant. As artists we need to push the agenda and bring it to the level at which we want to see,” Jahkim added.
