Jany Therese Letourdi is the newest member of the seventh National Assembly after swearing in yesterday as the new proportionately elected member for the Lalyans Demokratik Seselwa (LDS).

She replaces Clive Roucou and her appointment is in accordance with Article 81 (1) (h) (i) of the Constitution of Seychelles.

Article 81 prescribes that a Member may cease to be a Member of the National Assembly and that the seat occupied by that person shall become vacant , and in this case by the political party nominating another person to occupy the seat by informing the Speaker in writing.

At the last National Assembly election held in October last year, Hon Letourdi represented the LDS in the Roche Caïman district where she obtained 776, or 44.4 percent of the votes.

Audrey Vidot of the United Seychelles (US) won 781, or 44.7 percent of the votes to be elected as the district’s member of the National Assembly, while Ralph Volcère of the One Seychelles party obtained 192, or 11.0 percent of the total votes.

It is to note that Hon. Letourdi also formed part of the sixth National Assembly, also as a proportionately elected member.
