Patients from MIOT Hospital set to return on May 21 and 24 |20 May 2021
Good news for the patients and their chaperons who are currently stuck in India at the MIOT hospital following successful surgeries. They are set to come back to Seychelles on May 21 and 24 on Qatar Airways via Doha.
This was announced by the chief executive of the Health Care Agency, Danny Louange, to our newspaper.
In the last press meet, Dr Louange had explained that the ministry was in contact with the management of MIOT and that the Seychellois were fine and are safe.
He also noted all the concerns and said he would look into the matter to ease the ordeal of our fellow Seychellois.
Yesterday, Dr Louange confirmed to us that the Ministry of Health had found other alternatives to bring back our Seychellois and finally they will be arriving on May 21 and 24.
“This is such a relief for us and finally we can be back home in our comfort zone. We are thankful to the Ministry of Health and to MIOT for the great health services we received. There is no complaint about that. Our only issue was to stay inside our room for so many days and this was affecting me badly,” expressed one of the patients.
Due to the restriction of movement in India, the Seychellois could not travel thus putting them in a stressful situation.
Dr Yavar Vikhas, vice-president Products at MIOT, noted that “MIOT has always supported Seychellois patients during Covid. During the first wave we had experience helping with patients’ anxiety and their feelings of being homesick. Our managing director makes it a point to see them daily and reassure them. The chief matron at MIOT, Sister Elizabeth and Seychelles’ co-ordinator Deepa help them everyday with their medical and personal requirements. They are as much as possible held in private rooms on the same floor so they can maintain camaraderie when possible. Requests for special counselling when required are provided free of cost. Usual protocol based RTPCR Covid swabs are carried out immediately prior to departure”.
