Inspector Lorna Forte, with 28 years of dedicated service to the nation and the prison service, and assigned to the SPS Bois de Rose detention remand facility (DRF), has been nominated to participate in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Integrated Mission Support Course (IMSC) for Peace Support Operations.

The virtual course being held from March 15 to 26, 2021, targets all components of multidimensional Peace Support Operations (PSO), namely civilian, military, police, and corrections. The course for senior and middle management levels will draw participants from all SADC member states.

“It is fortuitous for us that the course coincided in the same month as International Women’s Day which was observed Monday March 8, 2021. Our force has at this time sixty-four (64) women serving different functions within the service. Inspector Lorna Forte with 28 years of dedicated service is a solid leader within the prison department. Her background and prior participation in SADC events positions us well. I take this opportunity to salute and commend all our female staff for the work that they do and continue to do. Many families are better off because of them. They deserve all the recognition and support as they contribute equally to our success,” Superintendent of Prisons, Raymond St Ange, said.

The prison service recognised the contributions of its female staff at a ceremony which was held at SPS Montagne Posée prison on Monday March 8, 2021. Female inmates attended as well.

Observations were as well held with staff at SPS Bois de Rose detention facility and with staff at the Superintendent’s secretariat in Victoria, this comprising probation staff as well as human resources and accounts.

The Seychelles Prison Service has in its strategic plan further and enhanced cooperation with regional partners. The continuing exchanges with different organisations within the region and beyond adds further positives for the service and staff who proudly serve.
