Covid-19 relief fund collects R76,803,907.05 as of February 26 |01 March 2021

As of February 26, 2021, the sum of R76,803,907.05 had been collected in the Covid-19 relief fund.

This is an amazing show of support from businesses and individuals towards expenses to combat the pandemic in the country.

It was President Wavel Ramkalawan who announced the creation of this account in his speech on the launch of the vaccination campaign on January 10. Immediately after, on January 14, numerous donors had heeded the call made by the President by donating to the Covid-19 relief fund in support of government's efforts to carry out the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and to mitigate the spread of the virus in the country.

Seeing the wonderful response from the community, President Ramkalawan stated: “I am profoundly grateful for all the contributions we have received. It is especially heartwarming to see our fellow brothers and sisters coming together as a country to support one another during this global pandemic that is affecting our people and our economy. All contributions will definitely be put to good use as we intensify our immunization programme through the National Covid-19 Vaccine Campaign and in mitigating the spread of Covid-19. My wish is for everyone to resume their normal lives, for our country to become economically stable again and for us to move forward as a nation.”

Even the diplomatic corps operating in Seychelles joined in to support our country.

We also saw the participation of inmates participating in the Seychelles Prison Service’s rehabilitation programme, ‘Project Phoenix’, who contributed the sum of R17,000.00 (seventeen thousand rupees) to the Seychelles Covid-19 relief fund, joining other private persons and companies in the national effort.
