Covid-19 - The Elite Judo Club joins fight to ‘Ippon’ the Covid-19 spread |20 February 2021
Despite the temporary suspension of all sports activities, the Roche Caïman-based Elite Judo Club have been active, precisely in collecting funds to buy supplies for the department of health, helping those in the forefront of the battle to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.
Head coach Francis Labrosse yesterday presented the deputy chief executive of the Health Care Agency Kathleen Cecile with a consignment of water which will benefit the different vaccination centres around the island.
The 17 packs – 204 bottles – have been made possible through contributions of parents, club members and friends.
Coach Labrosse, who was accompanied by assistant Marie-Annette Vidot, said the gesture is the club’s way of expressing its gratitude to the health workers for their hard work during the pandemic.
On behalf of the health authority, Ms Cecile thanked the club for the contribution which she said will be put into good use and will help them during the difficult time, since proper hydration, especially through water, is a basic necessity and health requirement.
She equally thanked the club coaches for their hard work and commitment to keeping the youth active through sports, which she said is the ideal way for them to gain self-discipline and stay away from bad influences.
