One death and 80 new cases recorded over the weekend

 

After the Minister of Health gave an interview on Friday February 5 announcing 147 new cases, 71 cases were registered on Saturday and nine yesterday (Sunday) from over 300 PCR tests conducted.

Also a seventh casualty has been recorded, a 71-year-old man.

The total number of Covid cases recorded in Seychelles is 1,513. The samples were taken on February 4, 5 and 6.

All the new cases are Seychellois and are from Mahé. Most have a history of contact with positive case.

The seventh Covid-19 related death was registered yesterday. The 71-year-old man was admitted to the isolation centre at Family Hospital two days before his death with severe illness and underlying medical conditions.

Forty-five (45) cases have met the discharge criteria and have been released into convalescence.

The information and circumstances surrounding this surge of Covid-19 cases are being analysed and further details will be provided in the coming days.

Health authorities urge members of the public to diligently observe all preventive and public health measures in place.

The following measures should be practiced daily to stop the spread of Covid-19.

• Keep interactions to immediate households (the persons you live with) only and to not gather in crowds.

• Wear a mask in public places and where physical distancing cannot be maintained

• Practise hand hygiene regularly

• Avoid gatherings and crowds

• Avoid sharing objects

• Practise physical distancing of more than 1 metre.
