LaFarge Cement donates R75,000 to Ministry of Health

Local cement dealer LaFarge Cement Co Seychelles yesterday donated to the department of health, a cheque for R75,000 towards the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Managing director of the company, Faroukh Baptiste, presented the donation to the chief executive of the Health Care Agency (HCA), Dr Danny Louange, during a brief ceremony at the Sheikh Khalifa Diagnostic Centre.

“It is always a pleasure for us to receive such a donation. R75,000 will help us greatly in our fight against Covid-19. As of late we have a campaign to vaccinate the whole population, the populations that can be vaccinated, and I think this donation will help us, not only in terms of vaccination but also in terms of equipment, consumables that we need to keep ourselves in line towards managing and controlling the pandemic.”

“The Ministry of Health, HCA and Public Health Authority (PHA), and all of our staff on the frontline and behind the scenes who are working hard, thank you and the management for the very important donation. It also goes to show that we are not alone in this fight. The private sector is ready to join us in this battle and I think it is important for us to realise, and we thank you, and all who have come forward to donate, and those to come, so we can together fight against the virus and bring our economy back on track,” Dr Louange said.

Mr Baptiste said the company was happy to give towards the ministry who is “doing an excellent job in managing the pandemic”.

“The vaccination programme is also going on well, and I think it is our duty as companies to help our country and people and to benefit everyone. We are conscious that the ministry also needs resources, equipment and such and so we have come out with the donation to help us move forward and I hope that we can win the battle against the pandemic,” Mr Baptiste said.
