Quick chat with Dr Jude Gédéon ‘Help us by breaking the chain of transmission’

Dr Gedeon

Since February last year, the Public Health Commissioner, Dr Jude Gédéon, has been projected in the limelight to inform us about the Covid-19 situation in the country. He has been trolled many times on social media and has been called names. People even accused him of conspiracy or giving out false figures. But guess what, Dr Gédéon remained steadfast and kept doing his work as a health professional and told us he finds his strength in the “Master above us” and also through the hard work and dedication of the staff at the Ministry of Health.

Albeit very busy, Dr Gédéon took a breather to have a quick chat with us last Saturday.

Seychelles NATION: Dr Gédéon please tell us how your team is managing the situation right now?

Dr Gédéon: We are trying our best and we are monitoring the situation very closely. We are working hard to rearrange our services in order not to impact our essential services and to respond to the increase in the number of cases right now. Without any doubt it is putting a lot of strain on our services and our staff. Our staff are making extra effort but we still urge the public to also make the effort and help us to reduce the transmission.

Seychelles NATION: Many people are saying that the figures are being manipulated, what do you have to say about this?

Dr Gédéon: Why would we manipulate the figures to put more stress on the people? This does not make sense. (LOL)

Seychelles NATION: There are also many people out there praying for you and your team so that you all remain healthy. Tell us, how are you doing?

Dr Gédéon: As front liners, the staff at the Ministry of Health are working non-stop. I always think of all the staff and this is what gives me courage and energy to carry on. We take our resources from the ‘Grand Master’ as we are believers. We have to balance our lives and also take some rest whenever we can. So far we try to create a balance to look after our own selves, but it is not always easy as there is a lot of pressure and work right now.

Seychelles NATION wishes Dr Gédéon and his team well and may they always be protected so that they can protect us.
