Three titles for Alissen Camille

Seasoned player Alissen excelled at the finals of the Rajaganapathy Store Badminton Tournament finals which took place last Saturday at the La Promenade Gymnasium, grabbing all three titles available, proving that she’s still got the ability to produce some good and entertaining displays.

Camille won the women’s singles, women’s doubles with Luo Xiang as partner, and the mixed doubles alongside Luo Jie.

In the women’s singles, Camille made her way to the final with a 2-0 (21-4, 21-4) semifinal win over Marlene Hoareau.

In the final, she faced Luo Xiang who had defeated Lana Jacques 2-0 (21-16, 21-5) in the other semifinal.

Camille had no difficulty in the final, sweeping aside her opponent 2-0 (25-5, 21-4) to take home the singles title.

Her second exploit of the day was in the women’s doubles where she and Xiang, who had won the bye in the semifinal, were up against veterans Johana Didon and Shirley Etienne who eliminated Vanessa Créa and Lana Jacques 2-0 (21-5, 21-10) in the only semifinal match played.

In the final, the Camille/Xiang duo defeated Didon and Etienne 2-0 to be crowned as champions. The set scores were 21-14 and 21-18.

Camille’s third title on Saturday came in the mixed-doubles where she teamed up with Xiang’s brother Luo Jie to beat Etienne and Steve Malcouzane.

To reach the final, Camille and Jie eliminated Créa and Siva Godandaraman 2-0 (21-14, 21-10) in the semifinal, and in the other last-four match, Etienne and Malcouzane defeated Lana Jacques and Jakim Renaud 2-0. The set scores were 21-16 and 21-9.

In the final, Camille and Jie won 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) and this proved to be Camille’s third title of the day.

Other winners of the day were Jakim Renaud (men’s singles), Kervin Ghislain and Jie (men’s doubles).

In the men’s singles, Renaud made his way to the final after defeating Ghislain 2-0 (21-15, 21-12) in the semifinal to face Jie who had eliminated Ryan Boniface 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) in the other semifinal. In the final, Renaud beat Jie 2-0 to win the title. The set scores were 21-13 and 21-16.

In the men’s doubles, the Ghislain/Jie duo made their way to the final with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) semifinal victory over Janaka and Malshan to book their final spot where they played against Aaron Malcouzane and Jakim Renaud who had dispatched Godandaraman and Steve Malcouzane 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) in the other semifinal.

Ghislain and Jie won the final match 2-0 to be crowned the men’s doubles champions of the tournament. The set scores were 21-13 and 21-14.
