President assents to Elections (Amendment) Act and Political Parties (Registration and Regulations) (Amendment) Act, 2020 |19 August 2020

President Danny Faure has assented to the Elections (Amendment) Act and the Political Parties (Registration and Regulations) (Amendment) Act, 2020, which were passed by the National Assembly on August 6, 2020 and submitted to the President on August 12, 2020.

Amendments to these Acts were proposed by the Electoral Commission which was mandated by Article 116 of the Constitution to undertake electoral reforms in Seychelles.

The main objective of the reforms was to review the electoral legal framework for the furtherance of democratic principles, effective representation and the creation of conditions that are conducive to fair electoral competition.
