5 ways you can celebrate true Friendship |31 July 2020
International Day of Friendship, celebrated annually on July 30, aims to highlight the friendship between individuals, people, cultures, countries, which “generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good”.
In honour of this, a few members of the local community shared their thoughts with the Seychelles NATION about five simple acts of kindness which can help us honour and celebrate true friendships.
Surprise your friend with flowers
Send a bouquet of flowers to your friend – organise for a bouquet of your friend's flowers to be sent to their workplace or home first thing in the morning; some florists in Victoria offer delivery. It is said that yellow flowers symbolise the bonds of friendship. Don't forget to attach a warm note to the bouquet, one which expresses how much you love and care for them. This not only makes your friend feel special (just a tad bit spoiled) but it also makes them realise that you were thinking of them.
Get crafty together
Get your hands dirty making crafts together – this is a fantastic way to spend quality time with your friends. Find simple and doable art projects that fit your styles and skill sets and organise for a crafting session. You could create simple jewellery, make personalised face masks or make crepe paper flowers which you can all take back home with you to keep as a memory of your time together.
Sing and dance together
Enjoy an evening of karaoke with your friends – spend the time singing your hearts out to music you and your friends grew up to. Pre-organise a list of classics and grab a microphone. YouTube is a great place to get free music videos with lyrics. This is a guaranteed way to have a few laughs together and to build a positive connection.
Have a Spa Day together
Book a massage with your closest friend at the spa – there are many options to choose from on our islands, or you can even create a spa day at home. This is a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying each other’s company, relaxing together, while enjoying calming aromas and soft music. It is also a special way to show gratitude to the person who is always there for you.
Keep the spirit of Friendship Day going every day
One of the most important ways to show our friends that we love and care for them is to nurture these friendships, not just on Friendship Day or other special occasions, but all throughout the year. This goes beyond gifts and treats; it’s all about making time to be there for your friends, to be a shoulder to cry on during their difficult moments, to resolve your conflicts quickly, to rejoice with them during happier times, to be honest and truthful with them, and to support their dreams.
