World renowned cricketer Upul Tharanga to make appearance in six-a-side soft ball tournament
World renowned cricketer Upul Tharanga will be the guest of honour of the six-a-side soft ball tournament organised by the Lakstars Sport Club.
Tharanga is the former limited over cricket captain of Sri Lanka and he will be joined by Sri Lanka national team spin bowling coach Piyal Wijethunga.
A left-handed opening batsman and occasional wicket-keeper, Tharanga was selected as Sri Lankan captain to lead them in ODI tri series in Zimbabwe on November 5, 2016. On November 14, 2016, he led the Sri Lankan team for the first time in an ODI against Zimbabwe, which was won comfortably by 8 wickets. At the end, Sri Lanka won the tri-series by defeating the hosts Zimbabwe in the final by 6 wickets. Tharanga was also the 19th captain for Sri Lanka in ODIs.
The second six-a-side soft ball tournament is scheduled to take place on Sunday July 7 at the Mont Fleuri playing fied.
Lakstars cricket club, duly registered with the Registrar of Associations in Seychelles has been a part of the Seychelles Cricket Association for the past 10 years and has been actively involved in the development of cricket as a sport amongst the Seychelles community.
The tournament will start at 8am with the championship and plate finals scheduled to be played later during the day.
There will be bouncing castles for children for free, alongside many food and soft drink stalls selling at reasonable prices, making it a family atmosphere for all to enjoy.
Several DJs will be present to provide entertainment.
