COVID-19 - Several restrictions to be removed as from today |04 May 2020

Since Seychelles has not registered any new case of COVID-19 in spite of several active case finding and tests, several restrictions will be removed as from today, Monday May 4, 2020.

Public Health Commissioner Jude Gedeon announced in the 8pm Creole news bulletin on SBC TV last night that if by 8pm on Sunday May 3, the situation remains unchanged, several restrictions will be removed.

While some restrictions are removed, some will be maintained to prevent the introduction of new cases and mitigate community transmission if a new case is detected.

The department of health released the following communique last night:

  • Since April 5, Seychelles has not registered any new case of COVID-19 in spite of several active case finding and tests.
  • As previously announced that if by 8pm on Sunday May 3, the situation remains unchanged, several restrictions will be removed.
  • The Public Health restriction order expires on Monday May 4, 2020 and a revised one will come into force on same day. This allows for gradual removal of restrictions by phases.
  • The removal allows several restrictions to be removed while maintaining others that are important as safeguard to prevent potential introduction of new cases and mitigate community transmission if a case were to be detected.
  • The public is called upon to give full support to the revised measures and to actively engage in internalising the new reality and the new way of living the new normal.
  • Pay particular attention to the three pillars of COVID-19 prevention.

o                     Increased vigilance in suspected case detection,

o                     Social or physical distancing at ALL TIMES

o                     Improved hygiene, especially hand and respiratory hygiene.

  • Let us all do our part to stay safe.
