Red Cross assists Ministry of Health with tents |17 March 2020
A total of eight tents used in disaster management were provided to the Ministry of Health yesterday by the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS).
The tents will be mounted in clinics around the island and will be used to conduct tests on people prior to entering and/or accessing the health centres and clinics.
This is part of the RCSS’ effort and mandate to prevent and alleviate suffering with complete impartiality and being an auxiliary to the public authority in the humanitarian area.
And apart from providing other assistance whenever required, the RCSS is represented on the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response Committee of the Ministry of Health as a member alongside other partners such as the police, the department of tourism, to name a few.
Recently, volunteers and staff of the RCSS attended a sensitisation session from representatives of the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 and contact tracing. Like all national societies, the RCSS is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and is receiving updated information from other national societies in the region and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). This is also part of its preparation in the event that there is a need to provide support to the authorities.
The RCSS will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, both locally and internationally, to identify and/or determine the support required.
And over the coming days more tents will be provided to the Ministry of Health in its effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The RCSS is calling on members of the public to constantly keep updating themselves on COVID-19 and to pay particular attention to advice provided by relevant authorities.
