Message from President Danny Faure on World Consumer Rights Day |14 March 2020
‘Adopt sustainable consumption patterns,’ population urged
“We should believe in a Seychelles where everyone has access to safe and sustainable products and services.”
This comes in a message from President Danny Faure on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day which falls tomorrow, March 15.
The full text of President Faure’s message reads:
“Every year, on March 15, the world celebrates World Consumer Rights Day. This is an annual occasion to raise awareness on consumer rights, advocate for consumer impact, and global solidarity.
“This year’s theme is ‘The Sustainable Consumer’ and consumer organisations around the world are joining together to call for global changes to prevent environmental breakdown and adopt sustainable consumption patterns. This is in line with increasing resource efficiency and fair trade while helping to alleviate poverty and enable everyone to enjoy a good quality of life with access to the resources they need.
“The Fair Trading Commission has been continuously active in the World Consumer Rights Day campaign for the past 10 years. Consumer education and outreach has been strengthened to improve behavioural change among consumers. This year is no exception. The Commission will be participating in a number of activities which include a beach clean-up activity and television programmes. There are also promotional materials specifically dedicated for this theme on social media pages and also through videos and posters.
“As individuals or consumers, we have enormous power in the purchase choices we make and how we use and dispose of those purchases, and also in our ability to influence the whole system (from production and manufacturing to packaging and disposal) by demanding more from supply chains and calling for more sustainable products and services.
“We should believe in a Seychelles where everyone has access to safe and sustainable products and services.”
