Outgoing President of the Court of Appeal, Francis MacGregor paid a farewell visit to President Danny Faure yesterday morning at the invitation of the head of state.

Speaking to the press after his call on the President, Justice MacGregor noted that Mr Faure expressed his sincere appreciation for the 40 years of service that he has spent as a public servant.

“The President wanted to express his appreciation for my long years of service in the public sector. We also discussed about my future plans now that I am retired,” said Mr MacGregor.

Even though he will no longer sit on the bench, Mr MacGregor noted that he will still be providing his legal services.

“I already have three offices, two at my residence and one in town, if there is anyone who wants to consult with me they will have an appropriate area to meet me,” added Mr MacGregor.

Mr MacGregor started his career 40 years ago as a politician and in regards to that he noted that he is done with politics and will focus more on national issues such as noise pollution in the country, overfishing by foreign boats and other such issues.

He added that the highlight of his career was when he was the speaker of the first National Assembly under the multi-party system from 1993 to 2007.

“At the time the multi-party system was just introduced and we had these different personalities with opposing views who strongly disagreed with each other. I was that person who had to control them and maintain the peace,” said Justice MacGregor.

The former judge added that he plans on publishing a book and still has a few surprises in store.
