UNODC highlights role of women in Seychelles’ maritime security

 

Stakeholders in marine law enforcement gathered last Thursday at the Military Training and Support Centre of the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) at Ile Perseverance for the presentation of findings on Seychellois women in maritime law enforcement.

The report, ‘Empowering Women for Sustainable Maritime Law Enforcement in the Western Indian Ocean’, was conducted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It examined the successes and challenges faced by women in the SCG, the Seychelles Marine Police Unit (MPU), and the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA), following consultations with female officers, students, and young women.
