Hindu Kovil Sangam marks 42 years with Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations
The Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam is marking 42 years of service to the Hindu community with this year’s grand Vinayagar Chaturthi Utsavam, a ten-day festival bringing together devotees, Seychellois families and visitors from overseas.
Dedicated to Lord Vinayagar, the remover of obstacles and deity of auspicious beginnings, the festival features a series of traditional rituals conducted in accordance with established Agama Vidhis.
The celebrations began on September 4 with Poorvangudal, during which devotees collected sacred sand, followed by Kaappu Kattudal, marking the formal beginning of the religious observances. Homa Pujas and other rituals continue throughout the festival, alongside ceremonies including Marundu Idithal and Theertha Vaari.
