Who doesn’t enjoy a good grilled fish or a comforting bouyon bred? On Praslin, fresh fish is more than just food on the table – it’s part of island life. And when there’s a good catch at the market, word spreads fast.
Last week I visited the Grand Anse Praslin fish market twice, and both times I was struck by how quiet it was. No fish on display, not a single fisherman in sight. The usual bustle was missing, leaving the place unusually still.
It didn’t take long to remember why: the South‑East Monsoon. Strong winds and rough seas make it difficult for fishermen to head out, which naturally means fewer catches reaching the market.
