Hooked on transparency: Young creators turn fisheries data into digital stories

Fisheries remain a central pillar of life in Seychelles. The sector sustains jobs, supports food security, underpins local businesses, and drives the broader blue economy. It is also deeply woven into the nation’s culture, communities, and identity. Yet a persistent question lingers: how much do ordinary citizens – especially younger generations – truly understand about the sector’s workings and its contributions to national well-being?

In recent years, Seychelles has advanced the public release of fisheries information through the Fisheries Transparency Initiative. Official reports now cover fish stock health, fishing licences, government revenues, subsidies, catches, and marine resource management. Much of this material, however, remains locked in technical documents or buried on government websites.
