Minister David Pierre’s Children’s Day message |01 June 2026
‘Building safe, inclusive schools for every child’
“On the occasion of International Children’s Day, observed in Seychelles on June 1, I extend my warmest wishes to every child across our beautiful islands.
“This year’s Unicef message, ‘Together for Every Child’, reminds us that every child matters and that we all share a responsibility to protect, support and empower children. It also aligns with the national theme promoted by the National Council for Children, ‘Les Zanfan Reste Zanfan’, which reminds us of the importance of allowing children to grow, learn, play and thrive in an environment of care, protection, dignity and love.
“Today, we celebrate you, your talents, your achievements and the joy you bring to our nation. You are an important part of Seychelles today as you are the future builders of our country.
“As a ministry, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every child in Seychelles has access to quality education, protection, care and the support needed to reach his or her full potential. Every child has the right to learn, to be safe, to be respected, to be heard and to grow in an inclusive and nurturing environment.
“While we celebrate your rights and achievements, it is also important to remember that every child has responsibilities. As you grow, I encourage you to embrace values such as respect, discipline, honesty, hard work, kindness, tolerance, empathy and compassion. Treat others with dignity, listen to your parents, teachers and elders, and show consideration for your friends and those around you. By making positive choices, helping one another and demonstrating good character in your daily lives, you contribute not only to your own success but also to building stronger families, schools and communities. These values will guide you throughout your lives and help you become responsible citizens who make a positive difference in Seychelles and beyond.
“Your safety and wellbeing remain a priority for the ministry. The Anti-Bullying Campaign to be launched in June, will strengthen school environments where every child feels safe, valued and supported.
“Ultimately, I encourage you to make the most of the opportunities available to you. Continue to learn, ask questions, respect one another and believe in yourselves. Let us also remember that not all children around the world enjoy the same opportunities. This should inspire us to be grateful, compassionate and determined to ensure that no child is left behind.
“Happy International Children’s Day 2026.”
