Seychelles marks Biodiversity Week with new pact

The Biodiversity Conservation and Management Division hosted the opening ceremony of International Biodiversity Week yesterday morning at the Grande Anse Mahé playing field, highlighting collaboration as the foundation for success.

A key moment of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy, and Natural Resources and the Baie Lazare Watershed Committee. The agreement strengthens cooperation in restoring wetlands and protecting watershed areas in Baie Lazare and Bougainville.

Since 2023, the two parties have worked together under the GOS-GEF-UNDP Ridge to Reef Project to implement the Baie Lazare Watershed Plan. The updated MoU clearly defines responsibilities and ensures long-term support for the maintenance of Dan Sours, reinforcing efforts in ecosystem restoration, watershed protection, biodiversity awareness, and community engagement over the next five years.
