Hawksbill Turtle Nesting Season Underway on Ile Plate

The return of nesting Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) is once again keeping conservation teams busy on Ile Plate, as the island’s shores welcome back the critically endangered species to lay their eggs this nesting season.

Since 20 August, theICSconservation team on Ile Plate have recorded five successful Hawksbill sea turtle nests, marking an encouraging start to the current nesting season.

As turtle activity continues, monitoring efforts on the island have increased, with conservation teams now conducting up to two patrols per day along the shoreline. These patrols allow the team to record turtle emergences, monitor nesting activity, and keep track of nests throughout the season.
