IDC resumes bird egg harvesting and sales

• 350,000 eggs approved; public orders open at R6 each

 

After a five-year pause, the Islands Development Company (IDC) will resume the sale of sooty tern eggs to the public in 2026, following Cabinet approval in March. Eggs will be sold at R6 each, with orders accepted exclusively via email at birdeggs@idc.sc or dizefzwazo@idc.sc. No phone orders will be entertained.

During a press conference at Maison Mazaren, IDC’s public relations and communications manager, Michael Govinden, and assistant warehouse manager, Christiane Commettant, explained the procedures and requirements for ordering and distribution.
