Women driving change in Seychelles’ maritime industry
The maritime sector has long been seen as male‑dominated, yet women worldwide are steadily reshaping the field through leadership, expertise, and resilience. According to the IMO‑WISTA Women in Maritime Survey 2024, women make up just under 19 percent of the maritime workforce sampled, while only 1 percent of seafarers are female. In national maritime authorities, women account for 19 percent of staff, and in the private maritime sector ashore, 16 percent.
