Sergeant testifies before Commission

The Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée prison riot of December 5, 2024, yesterday heard testimony from a single witness, Sergeant Tonyjo Juliette, during an open session chaired by Justice Alfred Mavedzenge with commissioners Melchior Vidot and Vic Tirant.

Sergeant Juliette, who has served at the prison for 14 years and currently oversees the search room section, confirmed he was on duty on December 5 and 6 but was at home when the riot first broke out. He said he was later called back by Inspector Ivan Nicholas as the situation escalated.

According to Sergeant Juliette, he had reported to work at around 6am that morning (December 5) and had not been assigned any special duties for the day. He added that he did not enter the prison’s main block during the morning.
