Praslin wildfire contained after rainfall and united response
Residents and visitors on Praslin can finally breathe a sigh of relief after the large wildfire that raged across Fond Azore in the Kan Per area of Baie Ste Anne on Wednesday was finally extinguished yesterday.
According to Shirley Joubert, Senior Environment Officer and head of the command centre, the fire was brought under control around 6pm yesterday. After confirming there was no risk of reignition, officers from the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA) and volunteers from several organisations — including the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF), the Department of Local Government, tourism establishments, and members of the public — left the site.
