Seychelles honours courage and unity on SADC Liberation Day
To commemorate SADC Liberation Day celebrated yesterday, March 23, the Republic of Seychelles extends its heartfelt reflections to the peoples of Southern Africa.
As we commemorate SADC Liberation Day, we honour the courage and sacrifices that shaped our region’s history and reaffirm our shared commitment to unity, peace, and progress.
The full message for the occasion reads:
“As we mark this solemn occasion of profound historical significance for our region, the Republic of Seychelles joins the member States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in commemorating the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the brave men and women who fought for the liberation and independence of the peoples of Southern Africa.
“This momentous day serves as a powerful reminder of the shared history that binds our region together. The struggles of past generations laid the foundation for the peace, sovereignty, and regional cooperation that our nations continue to build upon today.
“Seychelles pays tribute to the liberation movements and leaders whose efforts helped dismantle colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa. Their sacrifices not only shaped the destiny of the region but also formed the pillars upon which our societies stand today. Their legacy continues to inspire our collective commitment to the principles of unity, democracy, and sustainable development within the SADC region.
“As we reflect on this historic journey, let us use this day to renew our shared commitment to working together to address present-day challenges and to advance peace, stability, and prosperity for all the peoples of Southern Africa.
“As a proud member of SADC, Seychelles reaffirms its commitment to working with fellow member States to advance regional integration, sustainable development, and the well-being of our peoples.”
