Government announces coastal infrastructure project at Anse La Blague, Praslin
The Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Seychelles Land Transport Agency, has announced plans for a coastal infrastructure project at Anse La Blague, Praslin. The project involves the construction of a road aimed at improving accessibility while also providing coastal protection in the area.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the ministry acknowledged that such developments may raise concerns, particularly among residents, given the site’s close proximity to the sea and its importance as a sea turtle nesting area.
“In this regard, engagement with affected residents has already begun, providing an opportunity to listen to their views, address concerns, and ensure that their feedback is taken into consideration as the project progresses,” the statement read.
The ministry further noted that a design outlining the full intervention for the area has been prepared. However, implementation will be carried out in phases, taking into account the specific characteristics of the site.
“The ministry remains committed to a transparent and inclusive approach, ensuring that environmental considerations and community well-being remain at the forefront of all planning and implementation processes,” it added.
Further details regarding the project scope, timeline, and mitigation measures will be shared in due course.
