Seychelles and Kenya strengthen ties at Raisina Dialogue 2026
On the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2026, Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Barry Faure, engaged in pull-aside talks with counterparts from several nations.
In his meeting with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr Musalia Mudavadi, the two leaders underscored the strengthening bond between two key Indian Ocean neighbours.
They highlighted the importance of multilateral platforms such as Raisina in fostering deeper bilateral engagement.
Discussions focused on strategic pillars to enhance the Seychelles–Kenya partnership, including diaspora engagement, activation of the Joint Bilateral Commission, regional security, and broader international cooperation. Both ministers explored frameworks to better harness the skills and contributions of their diaspora communities for national development.
A central theme was the activation and scheduling of the Joint Commission, a vital mechanism for implementing agreements in trade, agriculture, and education. The talks also addressed maritime security, fisheries management, counter-piracy initiatives, and the sustainable use of ocean resources.
The leaders further exchanged views on the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict, particularly its effects on maritime and air connectivity. With both countries heavily reliant on tourism and trade, they emphasised the need for resilience and collaborative approaches to safeguard economic stability.
