Celebrating women at the heart of our Blue Economy
Minister pays tribute to women in fisheries, agriculture, and the Blue Economy
“Every year on March 8, the world joins together to celebrate International Women’s Day. As Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy, I want to pay special tribute to the women working in those sectors.
On this International Women’s Day, we take a moment to recognise and celebrate the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy in Seychelles. We salute the women who cultivate our land, manage our fisheries, and innovate within the Blue Economy. Behind every harvest, every catch, and every sustainable and innovative blue solution, there is a woman leading the way. Women are at the heart of our blue economy, ensuring food security, driving innovation and leading resilience.
This year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain’, calls on all of us to foster a truly gender-equal, sustainable, and inclusive environment for women in those sectors. Women’ participation in the productive sectors contributes towards increased revenue and growth. When women thrive, our communities rise.
“As a nation, we are proud of the progress we have made with women at the centre of the developments in those important sectors. However, we recognise that more can and must be done to ensure that every woman receives the support, recognition, and opportunities she rightfully deserves.
“Today, we also honour the millions of women who work tirelessly from the fields to the shores. They are the backbone of our food systems, the guardians of biodiversity, and the driving force behind a sustainable Blue Economy. We celebrate their achievements, particularly those working in traditionally male dominated fields, such as the fisheries, agriculture and the marine sector, and we recognise their important contribution to support those important sectors for many national economies.
“To all the women in fisheries, agriculture, and the Blue Economy, we see you, we appreciate you, and we stand with you. Thank you for your strength, dedication and hard work. May your contributions continue to inspire future generations and drive us toward a more inclusive and sustainable future in those sectors that are indeed close to our hearts.
“Continue to support equality and lift each other.
“Happy International Women’s Day!”
