Budget for Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources goes through |07 March 2026

A majority of National Assembly members on Thursday approved the allocated R145,179,000 sum for the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources.

After nearly one-and-a-half-hour discussion at committee stage chaired by deputy Speaker Hon. Egbert Aglae, 28 members approved the sum, while one member abstained.

When presenting the R145,179,000 sum allocated for 2026, Minister Marie-May Jeremie said this was a R38 million increase compared to the 2025 budget, and explained the increase reflects international funding for projects such as Ridge to Reef coral restoration.

“For 2026, we have prioritised projects related to energy, climate change, waste management, conservation of biodiversity and natural resources,” explained Minister Jeremie.

She informed the National Assembly that out of the allocation, R23.1 million will go towards capital projects, which include R5.7 million for the installation of photovoltaic systems on all government infrastructure and R2 million dedicated to homes for the elderly.
