Sri Lanka marks 78th Independence Anniversary in Seychelles

Minister Rose and Mrs Perera toasting to the 78th Independence of Sri Lanka and to the enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Seychelles

The 78th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence was celebrated yesterday in Seychelles with a distinguished diplomatic cocktail reception hosted by the high commission of Sri Lanka at the Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa.

The elegant evening brought together Seychelles’ ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and members of the Sri Lankan community.

Welcoming the gathering, acting High Commissioner Manisha Perera extended warm greetings to the guests. She recalled that on February 4, 1948, Sri Lanka regained its sovereignty and embarked on a new chapter in its long and distinguished history. Independence, she noted, marked not only the restoration of self-governance but also reaffirmed the nation’s enduring commitment to democracy, social justice, and national progress.
