Local fisheries experts explore the depths on global mission

Seychelles was proudly represented on a three-week international deep-sea fisheries research mission recently, with senior fisheries scientist Kettyna Gabriel and research technician Rahim Woodcock contributing their expertise to advance sustainable fisheries management.
The mission, onboard R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, conducted under the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) and Food and Agriculture Organisation – Institute of Marine Research – Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries through the Nansen Programme (FAO–IMR–Norad EAF-Nansen Programme), brought together scientists from around the world to survey deep-sea fisheries resources and ecosystems beyond national jurisdictions.
